The Baltic end of Poland runs on brick, amber and water.
Długi Targ was rebuilt facade by facade after 1945, the medieval crane still hangs over the Motława, and the shipyard where Solidarity started is a twenty-minute walk north. Malbork and the Sopot pier are both an easy morning away.
Warsaw was rebuilt from paintings. Then it turned the lights back on.
The Old Town you walk through is a post-war reconstruction so careful it is UNESCO-listed. Chopin’s heart is sealed in a pillar at Holy Cross Church, the recitals run most evenings, and the vodka museum sits in a converted distillery across the river in Praga.

The Trabant Morning
Nowa Huta was built next to Kraków in 1949 as a workers’ town for a giant steelworks, laid out around a central square with avenues radiating off it. Guides run it in two-stroke Trabants and Nysa vans that still smell of the era, stopping at the milk bar and the concrete church the residents fought for years to be allowed to build.

The Pierogi Class
Ruskie are the ones with potato and curd cheese, and they are the ones you will make first. The Highland Tasting
